Instead of adding a parallel port to the printer, you can buy a
parallel/USB adapter for the printer, and it's also a lot cheaper than
buying a new laser printer. I used one on a 5MP (that's the 5P with
internal postscript), and I swear the throughput to the printer
improved, even though I could think of no logical reason for it to do
so.
