I don't trust the package manager in GNOME. I did everything from the command line using the instructions that I posted in the links and it worked.
Right now OpenSolaris is very much like Linux and FreeBSD were in the first few years right after they came out (did you ever try using Linux back in 1993 or do you know anyone who tried to use it back then). Since everything is so new and was only released in May of 2008, everyone in the community is constantly patching and fixing the bugs, which is wh OpenSolaris Indiana and Solaris are different operating systems. The first one is new and unstable and runs better on Intel x86 hardware (Indiana doesn't run on SPARC at all yet, I think). The second one is almost 30 years old and is very stable (stable enough to control the launching of nuclear missiles without making a mistake) and runs VERY WELL on Sun SPARC hardware but doesn't run very well on Intel hardware. Because of the patching that is always going on in the newest version you have to be careful about following the directions to make sure you don't hit a bug that someone else already hit. You would have the same issues if you were using a preview version of FreeBSD 8 or a preview version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. Except that some of the code you are using is being tested so that it might eventually be included in Solaris 11. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
