How does a person go about specing out a machine to run OpenSolaris (x86). I'm
planning on making a new media server for my house, and I'd really like to run
zfs on it because bitrot makes me very angry. The trouble is that I can't find
a good list of motherboards that I can expect to nicely run Solaris.

My requirements for a motherboard are 8 SATA ports for storage drives + either
a few more SATA for CD-ROM and system drive or IDE for those two, gigabit
ethernet, and support for AMD processors. The motherboard that looks ideal is
http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=82&l3=612&l4=0&model=1984&modelmenu=1
, but from what I can find on bigadmin, the SATA controller (sil 3531),
ethernet controler (marvell), and north bridge (nForce 680) are not supported.
Is there a better compatibility list, or even a person who can say that those
parts do indeed work with solaris?
