I have cc'ed xwin-discuss, where the engineers who work on Xorg and
the drivers are found.

On the OpenSolaris LiveCD we only ship the current intel driver, not
the older i810 driver (the driver was renamed for it's 2.0 release
since it now supports many more chipsets than just the 810), and
Xorg server 1.3 (the release between X11R7.2 & 7.3).

You can try forcing the VESA driver, using the instructions at:
http://blogs.sun.com/sch/entry/indiana_vesa_if_you_need

Otherwise, the people who work on drivers and configuration can
probably help you best if you provide a copy of the
/var/log/Xorg.0.log file.
