Hi Problem: After login, CDE desktop appears with hourglass perpetually shown. The desktop does not respond to ANY click events, though it refreshes properly. CPU and IO activities are normal (as in zero).
Details: This is a fresh install in VMWare 5.5 on Windows XP. I had fiddled with VMWare tools, particularly I wanted to disable vmxnet driver for NIC and just use inbuilt pcn driver. CDE worked ok for sometime and then in one particular instance, it froze during login. Similar thing happened when I tried to login into gnome, so I killed them, cleaned up the dot files in the home directly to start everything afresh. GNOME recovered and is running fine, while CDE is still deadlocked somewhere. Is it a known problem ? Can I do something about it ? How to go about diagnosing the problem (DTrace ?) ?
