All right let's try an experiment.

1) Please use your install CD to boot into single user mode.
2) run format and see if you see your disk
3) If you see anything type it's number (0 most likely) (Let me know
if you see more than one)
4) next enter 'pa' to enter the partition menu
5) enter 'pr' to print the current partition table
6) if it complains enter 'la' to write the label to the disk
7) type 'pr' again

Please email any errors and the outputs of the steps 2,5,6,7.
