I don't know if it this helps, but I saw a notice that SATA (Sil type?) multiplexers will be supported in builds 120+. This can reduce the cost to make a NAS device extensible with external disk boxes. Right now I've got 5 SATA cables running from my controller to an external disk tower. I could reduce this to a single cable when this is available.
I had to move to the Maxwell controller from the SIL ones because the latter drivers were very flaky when I set my box up years ago. The Maxwell controllers were used in Thumper at the time, so these were more stable. Even those had some issues that were resolved in later builds (I believe I started somewhere around build 60 but it has been a long time and many live updates since). This has been running glitch free for years. Gary -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
