I moved opensolaris-help to "bcc," because I think this thread has reached the point where it is either complete, or should move somewhere else.
I'm glad you figured out your immediate problem (getting your updated image to boot.) Regarding this followup: > The question is why the update process did not make the necessary steps > to complete the update properly. The answer is that IPS is still under development. "The necessary steps" are not something that can be done using the current set of actions, and there is not [1] a scripting facility. Remember: IPS is a facility to reliably deliver bits from one place (the repository) to another (the image). It is not an installer [2]. Disclaimer: I defer the action/scripting and installer conversations not because they are uninteresting or inappropriate, but because they are already well underway in other forums. Before pursuing those questions further, you would do well to process the information referenced above, and the other links in the "Background Reading" section of the IPS Project Page [3]. --Mark [1] http://blogs.sun.com/sch/entry/pkg_1_a_no_scripting [2] http://blogs.sun.com/sch/entry/pkg_no_more_installer_magic [3] http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/pkg/
