Hi All, I have some problems getting the Solaris 10 GUI after i have
installed it.I have taken screenshots on what happens if i boot the Solaris 10.Here are they.Am sorry if they are not clear. But if required i can retake those photos. But its understandable, 1) The GrubMenu screen, http://i13.tinypic.com/4y0qn82.jpg 2) The initial screen after i select Solaris in the Grub Menu, http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/7629/dscn0932lz9.jpg 3)The third screen after i detects some hotplug failed initialization, http://xs119.xs.to/xs119/07384/DSCN0933.JPG 4)The fourth screen where it says Hostname,After that checking ufs filesystems then /dev/rdsk,then says "wait for the desktop login screen before logging in" & tries to boot up, http://xs119.xs.to/xs119/07384/DSCN0935.JPG 5) & After this comes the final screen with pink lines on top after which nothing happens, http://i11.tinypic.com/6hh3cbp.jpg Some details regarding my hardware, -Intel Pentium D 2.8Ghz. -Intel D945GNT( Intel inbuilt graphics & sound card ) with 82801GB Southbridge and 945GVchipset. -Transcend 1GB DDR2 RAM Some details regarding my installation, - Installed it in my single hard drive by creating a seperate partition and made it as primary active. - The other OS i have is Win XP with SP2. - I installed the Solaris 10 ( 11/06 )( x64/x86 ) that i got from sun. - The installation i chose was 3rd option "Solaris Interactive Text (Desktop session)". - Almost everywhere i used the default values as suggested by the os. - I didnt modify the slice, root anything. - I disabled network services for use by remote clients.( I read the documentation and i understood that i can enable this later after installation) - I also used the default XORG ,XServer values as it was given.Just pressed next for everything. Some details about the problem, 1)The system rebooted 2)Got the grub menu . 3)After selecting Solaris I get those start up commands,Login & after that as the system begind to boot the GUi it gets stuck as it can be seen in the screenshot. Some details about the troubleshooting that i have done till now as recommended by some members when i cross posted in several forums including this forum, - I disabled USB ports at Bios & tried.didnt work. - I also checked "Plug and Play OS: NO" & "Initialize all Devices" at Bios.I didnt find anything like that in Bios settings. - One of the member asked to "SSH the Logs" for errors.I dont know how to do that as am entirely new to Solaris.I also googled the issue.I want to know if this will help me.If i should check the logs how to do it ??? - Also i read Sun's documentation & also tried to "Restore a corrupt boot archive" by logging into Solaris Failsafe option. - am able to press "e" in the grub menu & if i select the bootline am able to get the grub editor once i press the "e" one more time. - When i press ctl-Alt-backspace after the system hangs nothing happens. - I was also asked to try open Solaris. But i would like to do that if this problem is unrecoverable error.( Coz i have a normal bandwidth & It will take days for me to download Open Solaris & then install it .So i would like to avoid this in order for me to save time as i also hav a lot other commitments to work on during this time) Some Questions about Solaris, - I was informed by one of my friend that it is designed to work best only in a SPARC processor & has a lot of problems with x86 & also he told me that it will run smooth only if i have 2 GB DDR2 RAM.But i didnt find any such info in the documentation where it read the minimum requirement as 512mb .Is that true ???? - Previously i have tried different versions of Linux( Suse,Kubuntu ) & i Loved it but after i got a new hard disk i thought of using Solaris 10 as i would like to do programming under a perfect Unix environment. So does Solaris also offer me a good environment similar to linux to carry out my work ??? So Finally,Is there any other way possible.Any commands to modify in the grub editor that can load the GUI. Or any other Info required further ????? Am ready to provide any info.... Plz help me to get through this process. I have allocated 20GB for Solaris in my new Hard Disk. I tried posting this in various forums, groups but i didnt get the problem fixed. That's the reason am posting here.Am sorry if i should pose questions related to open solaris only........... Am entirely new to this.So please guide me through this .... Thanx & Regards. Coder85. This message posted from opensolaris.org
