I actually have experienced this exact same problem on my Inspiron 530 booting the standard Solaris 10 DVD. Doing some searching on the web, I found this boot string that made it get past the freeze:
kernel /boot/multiboot kernel/unix -v -B install_media=cdrom,acpi-user-options=0x2 I'm guessing that the acpi is what is causing the freeze, but I don't know enough about Solaris to tell. Just thought that this might help others in this predicament. This message posted from opensolaris.org
