Thanks for the reply,

To clarify a few things, I'm running the Nevada (DVD iso) version of Solaris
which does not include pkg. This has limited my means of installing software
that I want such as NTFS-3g due to gcc-dev only being available through the pkg
utility. After tinkering with things I've managed to install Sun Studio Express
and some other compilers using other means (direct download and pkg-add
primarily). Through a bit of luck I managed to find instructions on how to
install pkg, but unfortunately the instructions that I found were incomplete,
as no matter how many times I tried the steps that seemed to relate to
installing pkg (it was part of a column on setting up a minimal install of
solaris) the utility would not install completely. So I was hoping to get some
advice on getting pkg fully installed on the system.

I think the truecrypt issue is more a problem with permissions or an
incompatibility between Ubuntu and Solaris. Though I'm unsure as to at which
point this problem may be occuring due to the fact that the problem only occurs
when I try to access the volume through Ubuntu with sshfs. As mentioned before
sshfs is currently the only way of accessing truecrypt volumes in linux over
the network due to some limitations in the truecrypt software. My only lead so
far is that from what I've read online, Solaris uses a varient of OpenSSH that
differs from the version that Ubuntu uses on it's end.

My current plans for the solaris computer is to just keep it as a file server,
so I will be primarily accessing all of my files through my Ubuntu laptop.
Though having the ability to open the files directly on the server in the case
of troubleshooting an issue would come in handy it is not as high of a priority
ensuring that the Ubuntu laptop is able to access all of the files on the
server securely with no issues.
