If you want IPS package management so badly, then why don't you use the "Indiana" version of OpenSolaris (i.e. 2008.11) which comes on a CD-ROM instead of the "Nevada" version of OpenSolaris (Solaris Express) which comes on a DVD.
Indiana is for people who want newer technologies like IPS. SXCE is for old, conservative Solaris sys-admins who are happy with their SysV packages and just want the most stable UNIX system possible (plus ZFS and some other niceties) without having to deal with pkg and the BASH shell and all the other things that are being tried out in Indiana. I think there's a need for both distros, so I'm happy that they both exist. But I don't try to make SXCE do things that only Indiana can do (such as IPS) or make Indiana do things that only Solaris Express can do (like flarcreate). -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
