I finally got a chance to properly step through kmdb..... I am attaching a photo, this was the best way to get the information out. It is a crappy picture, but the last line prior to the mutex_enter function where it freezes reads......
i_ddi_init_root+0x51: call -0x11bd4e <mutex_enter> mutex_enter: movq %gs:0x18,%rdx I try to step out of that function and the following characters show up on the screen <-[m and that is it.....it just sits there after that.
