I have this computer and was attempting to install OpenSolaris 2008.11 when I
began encountering challenges.
Here are the challenges that I experienced and how I got around them when
possible.

problem: Live cd wouldn't boot
answer: Booted 32 bit kernel and set acpi-user-options=0x8

problem: Xscreensaver takes a long time to display the unlock dialog box after
sitting for a while.
answer: I haven't been able to work around this nuance to date.

problem: Java application needed java 1.5 or earlier to run.
answer: Couldn't get around that because of motif licensing issues
unfortunately.

I would love to be able to use the 64-bit kernel if possible and be able to
avoid the acpi-user-options setting in the grub boot loader.

I have no idea how to begin troubleshooting the xscreensaver issues...I thought
they may be related to power management and since this is a desktop I disabled
power management option in the advanced properties window of the xscreensaver
preferences.

I haven't found anyone having issues specifically related to the HP 7900eC, so
I thought I would just post this quick note to let everyone know what problems
I experienced.

If someone has had these experiences and has suggestions, I am all ears.

Regards,
Jim Barker
