I read about the Supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 which is a 8 SATAII non-RAID controller for OpenSolaris.
It seems to be fully supported (because it is the same chipset the new Sun Fire X4500 used) and it is really cheaper than Adaptec or LSI ($70 for the Supermicro and about $400 for the Adaptec and LSI...)
