Regarding BIOS & Motherboards, there are many possible problems I don't understand. When looking for PCI IDE cards that worked with Solaris I found many that worked with one motherboard but not another. I suspect it has to do with interrupt assignment and sharing. All worked fine on all platforms with Linux (Knoppix). With this one I guess the Linux disk vindicates the hardware. Again, at least you know where the problem is.
