I'm quite impressed with OpenSolaris. I've used about thirty Linux distros, and none of them have worked this well for me. However, I've run into a potential deal-breaker - OpenSolaris uses a truly frightening amount of RAM. I have 1 gig, which should be enough to run almost any OS. The included GNOME System Monitor reports that the default GNOME desktop is using 750-850 MB when idle. GNOME is bloated, but not that bloated! A look at "prstat" shows the following:

It's unclear to me how much RAM OpenSolaris is actually using. However, I doubt if the problem is just System Monitor misreporting page file usage, because, when I hit 100% RAM used, the system stalls and begins to use swap space. Does anyone know how to change OpenSolaris's settings for RAM usage? This is killing me...</code> -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
