I think I know what you guys are trying to do because I was going to do the same thing myself. I think it's possible to install Windows XP inside a separate Solaris or OpenSolaris zone / container by using a product called "Win4Solaris". It has the full functionality of Windows XP inside Solaris (USB, iTunes, networking, printers, everything works) as you can see in the videos below:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InTXdk_FHv0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCNWB_slB-Y I think a non-commercial license for this product costs $30 or $40 and I think it is probably better and faster than running XP in virtual box because the microcode for Win4Solaris is optimized for running Microsoft Windows under Solaris with maximum efficiency and compatibility whereas Virtual Box has the more general goal of being able to run many different possible guest operating systems (OpenBSD, Red Hat, Debian, etc.) under many different possible host operating systems (Mac OS X, Windows, OpenSolaris, etc.) which makes the code more difficult to optimize for speed and Windows / Microsoft specific design eccentricities. >From what I've heard, Windows XP will run VERY fast under Win4Solaris (only a >5% CPU overhead is added from the Solaris host OS) and Win4Solaris also has >special security enhancement tools that allow you to set up Windows XP with >all the software you want installed and then make the Windows registry keys >and system files "read only" with a sticky bit so that malware and rootkits >cannot infect your Windows operating system. This is all just my opinion though, try it and find out for yourself. FYI: I don't work for Win4Solaris or Sun and I'm not here to advertise any products or anything. I'm just CompSci major college student with a Linux background who happens to be a big fan of Sun's enginnering and the UNIX OS. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
