Hi Rick, Welcome to the OpenSolaris world...
my suggestion to ease up the transition would be to install virtualbox in your OpenSolaris and install ubuntu of your favorite linux distro. You will find that in terms of ease of use or already made solutions to simple tasks linux might have an advantage and having the vbox linux can help you see the similarities. I came to Solaris from three years of Ubuntu, and as of yet, I go to Ubuntu for simple tasks. I love Solaris robustness and ZFS file system, so I ended up having solaris in my homeserver that I connect through putty/ssh and do the graphical part on ubuntu. For putty, I never tried looking for it on linux in fact, their website, http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html, only gives installers for windows and the source code for unix. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
