mmm looks like a very small kernel implementation, but freebsd 7.2 and 8.0 gimme a lot of audio issues, especially ac3 files or very high bitrate AAC. besides i remember not all music software have support for audioio.h.
i think a good solutions could be audioio on the kernel side + port missing drivers from ALSA and mantain ALSA userspace libs and tools to mantain compatibility. at least for me ALSA is the only one that can work with all audio stuff you can throw at it. even bluray(converted to h264 ofc but i leave audio intact) disc with 7.1 theater well whatever the choice the only truth is OSS is dead -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
