with whole disk you mean s2 right? Because s0 is not working. What I'm 
wondering..
I had Solaris 10 on the same machine before OpenSolaris 2009.06 and I saved
the "zpool status" output from that. It shows me c8t1d0 c9t1d0 as spare disks 
for
both pools and not a slice.

The other pool "tank0" only contains whole disks (c8t4d0 and so on). Is it a 
problem
if I now add c8t1d0s2 and c9t1d0s2 as spares to this pool?
