OK. Post screen-shot of CPU tab of CPU-Z with virtualization enabled in BIOS. 

If it does not show VT-x, then I think you should go to Hewlett-Packard's 
business support forums (I posted link earlier) and ask for help there. Don't 
worry though, people there don't bite!

As for resolution problems, they almost certainly aren't related to your 
monitor. It can do  1280x1024, so problem is either in VirtualBox settings or 
in guest OS settings. I haven't had similar problems for very long time, so I 
can't give you anything more specific than that.
