Ether, His problem is the new drive is smaller than the existing drive by 1 cylinder. That small amount makes it impossible to prtvtoc | fmthard ..... If it were the other way around, it would work. Tom, what does the vtoc (from the format command) look like on both disks? Is there a slice 9 on the new disk? If so, you could use dskpart (google solaris dskpart) to zero out slice 9 and manually create slice 0 to be the same size on the new disk as the old one.
