I have followed all the instructions for how to install a test kernel such that if it does not work you can boot the original...... it does not work.
I have ftp-ed my Install.i86pc.tar to / (root) and untared it there. My new kernel is recognized by the boot manager but it will not boot. It's start to boot and goes back to a reset stage. It cycles like that forever. Unfortunatly the original kernel behave the same. The only thing that boot is the failsafe (kernel?) in which I get cmd prompt. One only difference I found is that one needs to untar the Install.i86pc.tar being in the gnome directory (?) on the target machine. Any experience how to make ANY kernel boot in this state?
