Ahh, OK.

This USB keyboard (and mouse?) issue with the w2100z appears to be tracked as
bug
6423164 "USB keyboard & mouse don't work on w2100z running b39":

Not sure how they found the difference in "prtconf -D" output between b38 and
b39
when the usb console keyboard is unusable with b39; probably by booting b39
using a serial console?

According to the bug's description, it seems that the b39 kernel doesn't detect
the
ohci or ehci devices any more (==> so that usb becomes completely unusable with
b39 on the w2100z) ?

Well, that seems to be a different issue than the one that I'm currently
observing
on a Tyan Tiger MP, with a dead usb keyboard, when using b41. It seems that b41
deadlocks at boot time when you use an usb keyboard with an integrated usb hub,
and attach such a keyboard to another hub. This used to work with b40.

So I guess the only way to get a console keyboard with b39 on the w2100z is to
use a
serial port as console device?

With b39, are there any error messages reported on the console from the "ohci"
or "ehci"
kernel module? Or maybe from the "pci" kernel module? Maybe when you enable
verbose kernel messages by booting with the "-v" option?
