Hi,
another OpenSolaris newbie joining the ZFS frenzy. At least a relative
newbie, since I haven't admined Suns since SunOS 4.x days. In my case, the
goal is to build a NAS applicance distribution ala FreeNAS.
Starting by installed Solaris Express CR build 40 on an Intel 865GLC
motherboard (865G w/integrated 82547EI gigabit ethernet) with Sil3124 4-port
SATA controller.
First issue is the constant up/down of the e1000g interface that makes
network mostly unusable. The "pci 8086,1019 - e1000g[0]: Adapter 1000Mbps full
duplex copper link is up" (and mostly down) is the main message, although upon
initial install there was a warning about the hardware checksumming not being
reliable and that I should disable it. Need advice on how to do that if it is
in fact the key to keeping the interface up.
Details:
1. modinfo shows the Intel PRO 1000 v5.0.7 driver is loaded
2. there is also an early boot message that may or may not be relevant:
failed to program mem space [1/0/1] [EMAIL PROTECTED] length 0x8000000
My second issue is more mundane. The Sil3124 adapter and the two SATA disks
seem to be detected as sd0 and sd1, but I don't know how to actually utilize
them with ZFS since nothing useful shows up in /dev/dsk. Just the regular EIDE
boot disk and DVDROM seem to show up.
modinfo shows the Sil3124 v1.3 driver and sata driver v1.6 are loaded.
This is where my ignorance of Solaris is probably most apparent. I can post
dmesg details if needed from the actual box once the networking is more stable.
Thanks for any tips!
