Hmm, I wonder if you're running into 

6556092 Fix for 4698338 causes system to hang for ever after upgrade to snv_64.

All of the remarks that I can see talk about hangs after doing an
upgrade, so I don't know if BFUing would tickle this bug or not.

One way to help pin down the problem would be to boot with the -v flag.
Let me know if you need assistance doing that.

Or, try booting from the failsafe; tell it to mount your onnv-gate
partition as /a.  Does the file /a/var/svc/profile/upgrade exist, and
does it contain "svcadm disable -s svc:/network/tname" ?
