I'm starting to think this is a bug in the installer. Consider this:

$ smbclient -L 10.0.0.3
ld.so.1: smbclient: fatal: libpopt.so.0: open failed: No such file or directory
Killed
$
why would someone install smbclient without installing libpopt.so.0?

That was supposed to be fixed in Nevada 59 (unless you ignored the dependency warnings):

There's a lot of missing dependency information in Solaris packages (though
it's gotten better since QA started checking it a while ago, and filing bugs against problems they found).
