Hello, I am not sure if there is a special group for topics like that, but did not find a hardware group or something similar.
I have an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe Mainboard with a Silicon Image Sil 3112 controller onboard. I used the Solaris Device Detection Tool to get information about support and got the message that this controller is not supported. I then looked up the hcl for a not too expensive sata controller that is supported and found the adaptec: http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/data/components/details/801.html When looking into the details I read that it has the Sil3112a chipset with bios version 4.2.11. My onboard sata controller identifies itself on boot as Sil3112a with bios version 4.2.27. Is it possible that the detection tool just is not able to analyze the controller correctly because there is no disk attached to it yet? Or is there such a great difference between the controllers even though they seem to have the same chipset? Thanks in advance, Arvid
