So  what is the ethernet card  brand/type ? 

The command 

/usr/X11/bin/scanpci 

should report an Ethernet Device if Solaris does recognice it 

Did you get any questions on Networking During Install ?
If you did not get networking questions , you may have an unsupported Ethernet 
chip in your PC.

If you run

/usr/sbin/sys-unconfig

The system will reboot and you will be asked all the networking questions again
If Solaris does find a supported chipset.
