Well Are you sure this is a Solaris problem rather than a problem with the PC ?
No CD-ROM/DVD vendor that I can remember ever recommended anything else than having the CD/DVD as a primary single drive . IF you use a CD/DVD which usually only supports ultraDMA 66 speed on the same channel as an EIDE disk ,the disk will SLOW down to UltraDMA 66 as well. Whilst the disk could do UltraDMA 133.
