Lars, That is a very good point about transfer speeds. No, I am not sure that it is not an issue with the PC nor with the configuration.
Given that I can mount and use the drive successfully manually using standard device paths, I would expect that the OS would recognize it automatically. However, since I know very little about how the recognition method works, I can't say with any authority that it should. It may be that this configuration is not supported, either due to design decision or standards compliance.
