IMHO the short answer is use NexentaCore. It is a console-only version of OpenSolaris that can be updated to the latest version very easily and well from an online package repository. SXCE/SXDE is the latest open source-ish incarnation of Solaris 10, and Indiana is a very very early version of Solaris-done-like-Ubuntu. Both are made at Sun Microsystems. Nexenta on the other hand is made by people in the community, built using the same sources as SXCE/SXDE/Indiana, with a more mature and modern package management system.
