I want to change the GRUB splash image (splash.xpm.gz). I have extracte and edited the SXDE's default xpm with GIMP on OpenSolaris (SXDE) build 79, gzipped it and them moved into /boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz. The problem is that it appears as totally hazy/blobby.
I then followed some instructions on the net and converted it into Indexed mode (14 colors), but after conversion the quality is too low as compared to the original xpm (with the shaded S curve effect Sun uses in all its backgrounds). I guess the original one is either not 14 colors or was converted in a better way in order to retain quality?
