I convinced an old friend's son to give OpenSolaris a try. He ran the LiveCD
and it works so well that he really wants to install it. Yay! However, the
desktop installer can't find his hard drive. The BigAdmin HCL gives me hope
that it's something he's doing as it lists the "P" version as working. I would
assume that the "L" isn't much different. His motherboard is a Gigabyte
GA-P35-DS3L with Award BIOS F6.

I found out that he didn't have AHCI enabled, but this didn't seem to help make
the disk visible. It did make the Solaris Express Installation Checking tool
disk bootable, where it wouldn't boot before. Enabling AHCI also gives his
WinXP installation a hard time, so he'd prefer to find another route, if
possible. Interestingly the BIOS docs say that it is in legacy IDE mode if it's
not enabled which also should work, so at this point I don't know what else to
try.

Any hints from the community?

Thanks,
Gary
