I'm having some issues with Wireless networking and I'm considering logging bug reports for these (actually one is a feature enhancement request)
The first issue is: Since recently-ish (build 85 I think) WPA support actually works on my Wireless AP/router. However it only works once. If I reboot, it does not automatically connect to a known WPA secured network. To get a connection (with WPA enabled on the AP), I need to repeat the following steps: Give the AP a new (original) ESSID (not yet known to my laptop) restart the nwam service (or wait for it to pick up the "new" network) Select the "new" network ESSID Enter the pre-shared key (password). Alternatively, I can stop the NWAMD service, clear out known_wifi_networks, and start the service back up. It will then detect the network prompt for my password, and connect. In addition I recall seeing some errors in /var/adm/messages ... let me check .... The errors looks like this: in.routed[564]: [ID 588247 daemon.warning] interface wpi0 to 192.168.24.102broken: in=14 ierr=4 out=4 oerr=0 There are many of these. This issue does not appear when security is off. I will re-test this using WEP to compare the results. The second issue is, sometimes I want to associate / disconnect my existing connection, and reconnect to another network. Currently my only option appears to be to restart the nwamd service from the command line. Not a big issue, I already have a terminal window open almost all the time, but sometimes I think it might be nice for some users less comfortable with using the command line to have an icon to click and then be prompted with available wireless networks. Similarly sometimes one might want to click an icon to stop nwam / zenity from prompting you to connect to a network, at least for a "while", eg until I reboot, until a completely new AP becomes visible, until a "known" AP becomes visible, or even just for an hour! Your thoughts on this? Am I missing a utility or a setting somewhere? Thanx, _J
