It's Possible . we do it all the time with Hardware RAID. LIke LSI
Logic 1064 controllers.
or the Mylex raid controllers.
Its the Phony RAID present in Consumer MOtherboards which usually
need a software
assist from a driver within the Operating system that is unusable since
most of time
only MS Windows drivers are available for the RAID'let
These sneaky RAID things sits in chipsets on the motherboard like
Nvidia Nforce or
the ATI thing you have whitout their own processors , so they need to have
Assist from
the Main Processor on the board. A Real RAID controller comes with its own
CPU.
