Also you could see if your bios is setup for dual channel enabled for 128bit 
vs. 64bit memory, I had issues when I dual boot and install Vista or Win XP 
seem to require only 64bit single channel memory enabled in the bios. The other 
issue that I have found that impacts performance was HD on-board cache 16meg vs 
8 was noticeable for either IDE or Sata and lastly which most admins know is 
7200RPM HD (10k is nice but expensive)  this is really noticeable in laptops 
when updated.
