Mine's going out via Comcast's server, but the situation is pretty similar.
However, my mail server is still running Solaris 9; I think I may have had to rebuild sendmail, because the one with it didn't have SASL and authentication. I think with what's in Solaris 10 and later, one might not have to fool with that; it'd just be a configuration issue. Google for something like sendmail gmail 587 and you'll probably find an example.
