If you kill compiz and can get a terminal window open, just type "twm",
and it will start the window manager. I don't recall the steps needed to
make it a permanent change. Again this is a workaround if VNC shows a
white screen and killing compiz seems to solve that.
You might be able to try the desktop-disc...@opensolaris.org list for
more info.
