thank you for your answer ... I see to try it with the verbosity settings, need 
to find a good way, because now Solaris 10 upd8 is installed in the primary 
partition where I tried Opensolaris - all the descriptions to install 
Opensolaris in parallel into an unused Solaris slice do not seem to work with 
the installer (maybe install the Opensolaris to the primary partition and then 
move it to the slice through some backup / restore mechanism - tedious) ... 
maybe I have to just kill the Solaris 10 once more ...

--> this I tried using a terminalwindow with a tail -f running (hoping that it 
would bring important messages to display before the freeze), but no messages 
where there (fear, that the Opensolaris has a problem with the USB DVD drive, 
because the drive is a Combo device having also Video capture HW ... on the 
other hand the drive works well with all other Solaris, Linux, BSD ...)
