Greetings,

managed to install the Opensolaris after making the following changes in the
BIOS:
1. BIOS Change: set the configuration for the SATA controller from AHCI to
'compatibility'. (==> SATA controller acts like a PATA controller)
--> after this change the installation failed at 84% progress bar
2. BIOS Change: set the power management for the CDROM to 'silent'
With these two settings the Opensolaris install was successful.

Switched the two settings back to normal after the install had finished - the
system runs OK.

There seem to be a problem with the AHCI though, because the installed system
freezes, when copying data at a high rate. For instance copying the Opensolaris
application software image (iso image file) for offline installation using the
'rsync' command recommended in the documentation.
Can not say whether it is a general problem or dependant on the special HW -
disk drive combination.
