Once the keyboard driver loads (normally a few seconds after the progress
bar starts), hitting any key should clear the progress bar and show the
text console so you can see the error messages it's reporting.
You can also edit the grub menu settings to go straight to text console and
never start the progress bar by following the instructions shown in Comment 1
of this bug report:
