Well... I've made SOME progress on my macbook pro install. I can coax the thing to display graphics in VESA mode, when I use
Xorg -configure and then manually insert into the Monitor section, HorizSync 28.0 - 33.0 VertRefresh 43.0 - 72.0 These were actually "autodetected" at some point and mentioned in /var/log/Xorg.log*, so I'm a bit puzzled why they arent just used automatically But at this point, I've tweaked the livecd environment to PARTIALLY install the updated nvidia drivers from http://www.nvidia.com/object/solaris-display-195.36.31-driver.html so dont know if that helped. Side comment: really frustrating that I cant find a way to apply the nvidia video drivers to the livecd environment. I used some fancy hacks, amoung which were individually lopoback mounting all the Xorg modules from an expanded package set, on top of the read-only /usr paritition. This got the thing to modload, and "nvidia-xconfig" to run, and quit whining about version mismatch. But it still doesnt quite FULLY run the Xserver. sigh. Additional frustration: the X server would not seem to want to go into "virtual screen size" mode. it kept being locked into 800x600 size. and the "gui-install" program fills up 890x690. Yes, that's right.. it ALMOST BUT NOT QUITE fits into 800x600. And the parts you dont see.. ARE THE BUTTONS TO CONTINUE!! Really obnoxious, guys... if you're going to have "GUI-only" installs.. at least make it so it scales down to 800x600 cleanly... I got around this by alt-clicking in twm to move the gui-install window up-and-left so i could reach the buttons. grr. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-help mailing list opensolaris-help@opensolaris.org
