I have OSol installed on a 8 GB IDE DOM and it works wonderfully on my Thecus NAS. You should consider to install the text only version, depending on the size of your flash drive.
My IDE DOM is 8 GB in size and the usual graphical system accounts for 5+ GB which is more than 50% of the capacity. This will lead to pkg being unable to update your system in a whole. The text installer is only about 3+ GB which will make sure that I could do a pkg image-update to get my system to a newer release. I installed napp-it onto it, to get y Web-UI for administration and this works very well.
