That is not a strawman. Only if ANY code would not get in the
way of merging it would be ok to not ask LL for permission.

Allow me to quote from my original post:

  Linden Lab will take the following into account when making
  their decision about a new feature:

  * This is about Snowglobe ONLY; whether or not it's also
    added to the official viewer is a separate issue.

Thus, I already formulated it that way.
