There is the fault.  It should have been 'i686-whatever-netbsd'.  You
need to check the following:

  - does 'uname -m' output the expected thing ('i686' or something
    similar)?
  - what does the following thing (taken from line 167 in config)
    output?

        sysctl -n hw.model | sed 's,.*\(.\)86-class.*,i\186,'

    it should output 'i686', but if something's wrong with that
    expression, it will probably output something else...
