[willi@zoonenetbsd]:~/src/openssl-0.9.5a $ uname -m
i386

[willi@zoonenetbsd]:~/src/openssl-0.9.5a $ sysctl -n hw.model | sed
's,.*\(.\)86-class.*,i\186,'
bash: sysctl: command not found
maybe this should be checked earlier ?
but:
[root@zoonenetbsd]:~ # sysctl -n hw.model | sed 's,.*\(.\)86-class.*,i\186,'
i686
[root@zoonenetbsd]:~ # which sysctl
/usr/sbin/sysctl
this was a plain install of NetBSD, even no joe,emacs,bash and so on
I did install the bash...
Did you compile anytime as root?
Can't you rely on sysctl being in /usr/sbin/ and calling it
with absolute path?
uname IS available (on my default install) in the path;
why not use it?
