Hope you are not serious, my firewall at home is a slackware 4.0 with gcc
2.7.2.3 and OpenSSL 0.9.6 compiled and tested fine. I even compiled an
OpenSSL 0.9.5 with gcc 2.7.2 on a Slackware 3.1 (Slackware96) and it works
fine (it only took 26h on a 386 SX 25 + fpu with 4MB of RAM ;-) .
Everytime I saw such an error it was hardware related. Internal gcc errors
are generally detected by gcc itself and doesn't produce death by signal 11.
It's certainly overclocking, overheating or RAM faults, look at linux kernel
faq for more.
