drh> X509_NAME_print_ex() is its replacement. There are various options to
drh> x509 that can change the format for example: "-nameopt oneline"
drh> "-nameopt multiline". At some point one of these should be made the
drh> default and the old format only selectable with "-nameopt compat".

I wonder, shouldn't there be something similar for
X509_get_{issuer|subject}_name()? They still give the X.400-form
string, which can be a bit confusing... Is there a reason why
"openssl x509 -subject ..." gives a different subject output than
"openssl x509 -text ...", appart from technical reasons?
